This beautiful salon in the heart of the elegant Amsterdam Zuid district redefines beauty for the always on the go generation. Offering a choice of blow dry styles in just thirty minutes, alongside other speedy treatments, such as eyebrow shaping, make-up services and manicures, the Hairbar needed interiors that conveyed the concept of luxurious convenience. With this in mind, Eric Kuster created an ambiance akin to that of a cocktail bar, a place to relax and take time out in between visits to the nearby Rijksmuseum or neighbouring designer stores.
Kuster’s signature aesthetic can be seen throughout the salon space, which encompasses a barber’s shop above the Hairbar and colour bar below. Sitting within a historic brick building, Kuster has injected contemporary glamour at every touchpoint. a sexy mélange of unusual and contrasting materials achieve an overall sense of sumptuousness, tempered with sleek urban life. Leather floors meet wooden fixtures and metallic textiles. Heritage French brands, such as Balmain and Kerastase, are showcased and alluded to with classical Parisian detailing on – for example – door and drawer profiles.
The Metropolitan Luxury stamp of elegance and glamour is evident in the high quality furniture, fabrics and upholstery – almost all of which are from Kuster’s own label.
The clients, Maurice and Danielle Pierôt have become renowned stylists in the Netherlands and beyond. This is the third Pierôt salon since they started their business in 1964. The Hairbar was a personally important project for Eric Kuster in light of the fact that both Maurice’s and Eric’s father were hair stylists. On top of this, the Pierôts were among his first clients when he designed the interiors for their villa.
